I’m always curious to learn about entrepreneurs and other business leaders who meditate and go on retreats. Particularly when they’re willing to speak of their experiences. So here’s a stash of my favourite quotes.

If you’re putting together an internal business case for a leadership retreat or mindfulness training, citing the experience of C-level execs at Salesforce and Twitter is unlikely to hurt!

Hopefully they’ll provide some inspiration.

“There is no medication better than meditation.” Marc Benioff, Chairman & CEO, Salesforce

“The main business case for meditation is that if you’re fully present on the job, you will be more effective as a leader, you will make better decisions and you will work better with other people… I tend to live a very busy life. This keeps me focused on what’s important.”
William George, Board Member, Goldman Sachs

“Just finished a 10 day silent meditation. Wow, what a reset! Fortunate & grateful I was able to take the time…” Jack Dorsey, Co-Founder & CEO, Twitter

“Meditation has helped me discard interesting but unnecessary information and focus on the few things that make a difference to long run investment performance.”Peter Cooper, Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer, Cooper Investors

[Meditation…] “it’s almost like a reboot for your brain and your soul” Padmasree Warrior, CTO & Strategy Officer, Cisco Systems

“While the benefits of mindfulness are important no matter where you are in the company org chart, it’s especially vital for the hard-charging managers and leaders…”Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief, Huffington Post Media Group

“The outside world is constantly trying to convince you you’re not enough. But you don’t have to take the bait. Meditation helps you resist.”Oprah Winfrey, Oprah.com

“You can’t force people to be mindful at all, as it turns out… I think you can make it easier to be mindful… If it’s on your calendar, and there’s a room over there to sit in, and there’s someone there to guide you, you’re 10,000 times more likely to do it.”Evan Williams, Co-Founder, Twitter

“Thanks to meditation I have developed patience… I have a better relationship with my team. Best of all, I maintain my peace of mind.”Archana Patchirajan, Serial Entrepreneur & Founder of Sattva

“Our attention is the greatest gift we can give to others.”

“…research is showing that significant benefits of meditation can be observed after only eight weeks of training.” Chade-Meng Tan, ‘Jolly Good Fellow’ and Former Software Engineer, Google

“If you just sit and observe, you will see how restless your mind is. If you try to calm it, it only makes it worse, but over time it does calm, and when it does, there’s room to hear more subtle things–that’s when your intuition starts to blossom and you start to see things more clearly and be in the present more. Your mind just slows down, and you see a tremendous expanse in the moment. You see so much more than you could see before.”Steve Jobs, Apple, as quoted by biographer Walter Isaacson
